This sheet contains relevant information for configuring your Speednet account if you are using an Apple Macintosh (OS 8). You should have your Speednet Setup Sheet with you, as this has your Setup Configuration details you will require.

How to Setup your Modem
  1. Click on the Apple Icon then open Control Panel.
  2. Click on Modems.
  3. Select your modem from the list of modems and ensure the correct communications port has been selected.
  4. Close the modems control panel and save the changes.

How to Setup PPP
  1. Click on the Apple Icon then open Control Panel.
  2. Click on PPP.
  3. Ensure Registered User is selected.
  4. In the Name field type your Speednet Internet user name. This information is on your Speednet invoice. Ensure that you enter your user name only (NOT your full email address - email address is username@speednet.com.au) and also ensure that you have entered it all in lower case (if you use any Capital Letters it won't work).
  5. In the Password field type your Speednet Internet password, again ensure that you are typing it all in lower case.
  6. Type in 019 833 1201 into the phone number field.
  7. Click on the Options button.
  8. Click on the Redialing tab. Set it to Off.
  9. Click on the Connection tab. Place a tick next to "Connect automatically when starting tcp/ip applications". The other settings under the Connection tab can be set to suit your preferences.
  10. Click on the Protocol tab. Put a check next to "Allow error correction and compression in modem" and "Use TCP header compression". Leave "Connect to a command line" blank. This will connect you using a PAP login.

PAP can sometimes be unreliable in which case you may have to connect using a terminal. Instructions on connecting using a terminal are below:

  11. To setup a connection using a terminal screen:
  12. On the Protocol tab place a tick next to "Connect to a command line host" and select "Use terminal window". Click on OK.
  13. On the PPP window click Connect. A PPP Terminal screen should appear.
  14. In the terminal screen type AT then press the Enter key to which there should be an automated response of OK.
  15. Once you have the OK response type ATDTaccessnumber and then Enter (where "accessnumber" is 019 833 2101 into the phone number field). Your modem should dial and connect.
  16. Once a connection has been established click Continue and you should connect normally.

If you are still having problems connecting using a terminal, you may need to use an initialisation string. Insert an initialisation string after Step 13 and press Enter. To find an initialisation string for your modem Click Here. It should come back with OK. Then contine to Step 14.

How to Configure TCP/IP
  1. Click on the Apple Icon then open Control Panel.
  2. Open TCP/IP
